Assistant coach Chris Morris has completed his sixth season with the CofC program.

Morris works with Charleston's hitters and base runners. In 2012, the Cougars ranked fifth in the nation in home runs (65), placing at least fifth in that category for all of Morris' years with the Cougars. In 2010, the Cougars' prolific offense placed in the top 10 of NCAA Division I rankings in home runs (5th), scoring (7th), runs (8th) and doubles (9th). The Cougars ranked third in the nation in 2009 in home runs, fourth in scoring, fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in doubles, ninth in batting average and second in sacrifice flies.

Morris has coached four Southern Conference Players of the Year (Jeremie Tice '08, Joey Bergman '09, Matt Leeds '10 and Marty Gantt ‘12) and 16 All-SoCon First Team selections. At CofC, Morris has coached eight different All-Americans, while 14 position players have been drafted or signed since 2007.

Morris, who earned a degree in exercise science from the College of Charleston in 2005, played a total of six seasons in the St. Louis, Milwaukee and Los Angeles Angels organizations. He played collegiately at The Citadel (1998-00) where he earned first team All-America honors by USA Today and Baseball Weekly in 2000, after leading the nation with a Southern Conference-record 84 stolen bases.

Morris, who was named the Peoria Chiefs team MVP in 2001 after stealing a Midwest League record 111 bases, was drafted in the 15th round by the Cardinals in 2000. He is just one of 15 players in pro baseball history to steal at least 100 bases in a season.

Morris graduated in 1997 from Andrews High School where he was a two-time all-state honoree.
