The late Dr. William Moore, who served as the College of Charleston's NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative, and  former Equestrian team member Garland Hughes have been selected for membership into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame for 2009-10, it was announced on Monday.

The two will be inducted into the College of Charleston's Hall of Fame at a brunch on Saturday, February 6 at 10 a.m. in the McAlister Hospitality Suite at Carolina First Arena.  Tickets for the brunch are $15.  For more information, call the Cougar Club at 843-953-8254.

Moore was the College of Charleston's first NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative from 1991 until his death in 2009, serving in the Trans America Athletic Conference (now Atlantic Sun) and the Southern Conference.  Moore served as Vice President and President of the Southern Conference during his tenure and was honored this spring by the league with a Graduate Scholarship in his name, given annually to a deserving student-athlete.

Moore spent over 30 years dedicating his time and effort to mentor and advise student-athletes.  He was the long-time public address announcer for home men's basketball games, addressing over 450 games that spanned from the Silcox Gym to the Carolina First Arena.

Hughes rode for the Cougars from 1988-1992 and competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championship Horse Show four straight years.  In 1990, he won the team Walk, Trot and Canter Class and led the Cougars to a fifth-place finish.  The following year Hughes won the Novice Equitation over Fences and led the Cougars to the IHSA Reserve National Championship, their second in three years.  Hughes finished his career with a third-place finish in the Intermediate Flats to lead the Cougars to sixth at Nationals.

Hughes graduated in 1992 with a degree in Psychology and is the founder and owner of The Carolina Group, a highly successful real estate development group based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
