BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Latisha Harris led the College of Charleston women's basketball team with 19 points and 14 rebounds but the Cougars fell 70-56 at Samford Monday night.
Junior Megan Fischer added 12 points and sophomore Jillian Brown recorded five assists and five steals.
Harris scored the first seven points for the Cougars (6-20, 5-12 SoCon) as she hit two field goals and converted on three of four free-throws.
The Bulldogs (15-9, 10-5 SoCon) came out firing in the first half as they made eight three-pointers and jumped out to a 30-11 lead. The Cougars would fight back as junior Megan Fischer hit two three-pointers to ignite a 9-0 CofC run to bring them within 30-20. At halftime they trailed by 10 at 34-24.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half as they used a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 41-24.
The Cougars came back as they used a 10-3 run to draw within seven at 50-43 with 9:15 remaining in the game.
Samford continued to launch three-pointers, shooting 12-for-29 for the game and pulled away down the stretch to pick up the victory.
The Cougars out-rebounded the Bulldogs 50-33 and held a 21-4 advantage on second chance points, but shot 26.2 percent from the field and committed 21 turnovers.
The Cougars will play host to their final two home games as they welcome UNCG on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. game and host Elon Monday at 7:00 p.m.
