HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Senior Leigh Whittaker shot a 3-over 75 to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team in the first round of the Southern Conference Championship Sunday at the Moss Creek Golf Club.

The Cougars shot a team score of 26-over 314 and are eight shots back of team leader UNCG.

Whittaker was consistent throughout the round with 13 pars and three bogeys and is tied for fourth-place on the individual leaderboard as not a single individual shot even par or better. The first round leader is Martyna Mierzwa of Elon with a 74.

The Cougars next three golfers all finished the first round in the top 25 with juniors Vanessa Koechli (79, 16^th), Katharina Boehm (80, 23^rd) and Anna Martin (80, 23^rd).

Junior Ainhoa Nogales rounded out the lineup with an 83 and is tied for 34^th.
