Joe Wallace
Position: Assistant Coach
Hometown: Wheeling, W.Va.
Alma Mater: West Liberty University
Graduating Year: 2005
Joe Wallace was promoted to assistant coach on June 26, 2013, and is in his second season with the College of Charleston men's basketball program.
Wallace previously served as director of basketball operations during the 2012-13 season and spent the last six years prior at the University of Tulsa under CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik. There, he served three seasons as director of basketball operations for the Golden Hurricane coordinating all video operations, scouting and team travel as well as monitoring academic progress and facility improvement.
He was promoted from graduate manager in 2009, where he served as director of player development working with current NBA players Ben Uzoh and Jerome Jordan. During his time at Tulsa, the team won the inaugural CBI Championship title in 2008 and made two NIT appearances in 2009 and 2010.
“Joe is well-deserving of this opportunity,” Wojcik said. “He has done all of the little jobs that no one wants to do for a very long time. Joe was a major part of making our transition from Tulsa to Charleston smooth. He has been a rock for me. Joe is dependable and has a strong work ethic. CofC is a great situation for me to be able to move him up from the director of operations role to full-time assistant coach. Joe has the skill set to be a great recruiter and on-floor coach. I know our players really like him and player relationships are very important. Joe continues to add consistency to our coaching staff as we move into our second year. He and his wife, Cory, have been a big asset to our basketball family, community and program for the last seven years.”
Prior to Tulsa, he was an assistant basketball coach for four seasons at Bishop Donahue (W.Va.) High School. During his tenure at Bishop Donahue, Wallace also served as the junior varsity head coach.
Originally from Wheeling, W.Va., Wallace earned his bachelor's degree in social science education from West Liberty (W.Va.) University in 2005, where he was a two-year football letterwinner on special teams. He also played one season of basketball at Waynesburg (Pa.) College. Wallace is married to the former Cory Danison and the couple has a black Labrador named Slaton.
