Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-10; 0-4 vs. CAA) kept it close through three quarters, but the Delaware Blue Hens (8-7; 3-1 vs. CAA) ultimately pulled away down the stretch to take the 63-47 victory.
After going down double-digits early, the Cougars steeled themselves in the third quarter and began to chip away at the lead. Delaware had led by as many as 14, but the College managed to come all the way back, pushing the score to 42-42 at the end of the third quarter.
At that time, the lid clamped itself firmly upon the Cougars basket, and the scoring faucet turned off almost completely. CofC managed five fourth-quarter points on 1-of-15 shooting, as the Blue Hens pulled away for the 16-point win.
“I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of effort late,” head coach Candice M. Jackson said. “We worked hard to tie the game, but we didn't let our momentum carry us into the fourth the way that it should have.”
Breanna Bolden had another useful stat-line, pulling down her third double-double of the season with a 16-10 effort on 5-of-16 shooting. Jackie Luna-Castro sunk 15 points of her own, adding five boards and three blocks.
For the game, the Cougars had a rough go of it in the battle under the glass, giving up the 52-38 advantage to UD. Neither team shot the ball particularly well, and the Cougars managed to win the turnover battle, limiting themselves to nine.
The Cougars will have a day off to recuperate before heading north along the coast to face the UNCW Seahawks for a 2 P.M. showdown in Trask Coliseum on Sunday.
