CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team will travel to Newark, Delaware for its first Colonial Athletic Association series of the season. These teams will play one game on Friday, March 25 at 3 p.m. and then a double header on Saturday, March 26 starting at 11 a.m.
The Cougars (19-10) enter conference play on a hot streak, having won all six games they played last week. The College won games in every way imaginable last week, with two comebacks in the seventh inning or later against Buffalo and UConn, and two run-ruled wins against Brown and Central Connecticut.
Senior outfielder Rebecca Mueller has been a staple of the College of Charleston's offense this season, leading the team in batting average (.436), extra base hits (11), total bases (55), and is tied for the team-lead in hits (41). Mueller is tied with sophomore sensation Taylor DuPree in hits, and DuPree is second on the team with a .423 batting average, as well as leading the team in stolen bases with 11.
The College's ace pitcher Samantha Martin has accumulated 68 strikeouts through 95.0 innings of work. Her 11-4 record and 1.92 ERA both lead the team. Sydney Shipley (6-4) has also seen dramatic improvements this season, as she now sports a 2.80 ERA through 70.0 innings, and has struck out 39 batters on the year.
Delaware (14-10) is coming off of a double header against Monmouth on Wednesday, losing the first game, 3-1, and winning the second, 1-0. The Cougars and the Blue Hens have faced six times in the past two season, and The College owns the series record, 4-2. When these teams met in 2015 at Patriots Point, the Cougars took two of three games.
