Matt Heath finishes his second season at the College of Charleston as CofC's pitching coach in his second stint with the program, boasting an impressive track record of coaching coupled with professional experience as a player and scout. With experience on both sides of the battery, Heath has worked under three different college systems as well as at the professional level.

In 2012, Heath led the Cougars' pitching staff to a league-best ERA of 3.21 along with the SoCon Pitcher of the Year Christian Powell.

While at College of Charleston from 2006-2008, Heath coached hitters, fielders, and catchers and the Cougars excelled under his guidance. They were ranked nationally in various categories and broke multiple school and conference records.

After two years, Heath accepted a position at Auburn, returning to the SEC where he played for both Florida and LSU. During the 2009 season as Auburn's offensive coach, Heath worked with hitters, fielders, and catchers. The Tigers ranked nationally in several categories and broke numerous school records. After the 2009 season, he resigned his position to pursue an opportunity with the Houston Astros as the North Florida Supervisor.

Heath initially came to College of Charleston after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Tallahassee Community College. Under Heath's guidance, TCC ranked in the top five in Florida both seasons in numerous categories.

A native of Fernandina Beach, FL, Heath attended Fernandina Beach High School where he was named North Florida Player of the Year. After graduation he played at University of Florida for two years before transferring to LSU.

At LSU, Heath was a two-time All-SEC Tournament selection, making the team as catcher in 2001 and outfielder a year later. In 2002, he led LSU in home runs and runs scored. That season he was also selected to the NCAA Regional All-tournament Team at the Baton Rouge Regional.

After playing at LSU, Heath signed a pro contract and played in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization for two seasons before completing his degree at LSU and beginning his coaching career.
