SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston rising sophomore Alex Ellis fired a tournament low round of eight-under par 71-64=135, including a second round 64, to take medalist honors and claim the number two seed for match play in the 39th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at the Carolina Country Club Thursday.
After 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, the field was cut to the low 31 players plus the defending champion and number one seed, Todd White of Moore, SC for the match play portion of the championship that begins on Friday.
Ellis was not the only Cougar golfer to qualify for the match play part of the championship, as Parker Allen also qualified by shooting 70-73-143 (-1). Below is the field of 32 golfers that will compete for the match play championship.
