LUBBOCK, Texas. - College of Charleston junior pitcher Christian Powell has been named to the watch list for the Pitcher of the Year, presented by the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Powell is one of 51 pitchers nationwide to be selected for the list, and the only player from the Southern Conference.
The winner of the Pitcher of the Year Award will be announced on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the annual College Baseball Night of Champions. The event features the presentation of numerous awards and the induction ceremony for this year's Hall of Fame class.
Powell currently leads the Southern Conference with an ERA of 2.20 and a record of 7-2. His number of victories currently ranks ninth in the country, while Powell leads a CofC pitching staff that ranks fifth in the nation in ERA (2.74) and fifth in the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.24).
Powell's teammate, David Peterson, was already been selected for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list.
