CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior left-handed pitcher Josh Renfro has signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Renfro joins drafted teammates Marty Gantt (Tampa Bay), Christian Powell (Minnesota) and David Peterson (Atlanta) and fellow pitcher Kyle Owings (Arizona, FA) as Cougars selected by MLB clubs in 2012.
A native of Bradenton, Fla., Renfro was a Preseason All-SoCon selection in 2012. He recorded a team-best 11 strikeouts twice, including in a complete-game win over Wofford (3/16).
He finished his CofC career with a gutsy pitching performance in a 3-0 elimination loss to Georgia Tech in the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Renfro allowed just one run in 7.1 innings while striking out five Yellow Jackets.
In his two-year career at College of Charleston, Renfro posted a record of 15-11 with a 3.56 ERA. He recorded 150 strikeouts against just 41 walks.
