CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sophomore Parker Allen and senior Ben Pounds were recently honored by the Southern Conference by being placed on the 2011-12 Academic Honor Roll.
"I'm very proud of Parker and Ben," CofC men's golf head coach Mark McEntire said. "We place a heavy importance on academics at the College of Charleston. Parker and Ben show great determination and balance when it comes to academics and athletics. This is a great accomplishment for them."
Allen is currently undecided on his major, while Pounds is majoring in accounting.
College of Charleston increased the number of student-athletes on the Honor Roll yet again this year, joining five other member institutions that also raised the number of honorees for this academic year. Overall, College of Charleston ranked fourth in the Southern Conference for the most honorees, trailing only Davidson (270), Wofford (204) and Appalachian State (193).
Southern Conference athletic directors established the honor roll prior to the 1988-89 athletic season as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher while passing at least 24 hours in two semesters of classes or its equivalent for other academic calendars.
