Equestrian Finishes Second at Georgia Southern; Increases Region Lead
BROOKLET, Ga. – The College of Charleston equestrian team placed second at its Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition at Evermore Farm. Four CofC riders won their classes as the Cougars increased their first-place lead on the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 as a result of the show.
“The girls rode well with no mistakes,” said head coach Bob Story. “We just could not seem to win any classes at the right time. The riders were consistently placing in second, third and fourth all day.”
First-place riders for the Cougars were Emily Rhodes in the Intermediate Fences, Zoe Merritt in the Open Flat (Section A), Eliza Hay in the Open Flat (Section B) and Evelyn Lewis in the Novice Flat (Section C).
Show host Georgia Southern claimed first place in the show with 38 points on the day, six ahead of CofC at 32.
The Cougars padded their Zone 5 Region 3 lead as a result of South Carolina, which sits in second overall, finishing third at the Evermore Farm show. The Cougars now sit 37 points clear of the Gamecocks in the standings.
The riders return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Clemson.
