SORRENTO, Fla. - Freshman Julia Neumann fired a 1-under 71 and the College of Charleston women's golf team is tied for 13th place after the first round of the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club Sunday.
The Cougars shot a team score of 299 (+11) and are within six shots of the top-eight as many teams are separated by only a few shots.
"We had a fairly solid start to the tournament today," CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said. "We have an excellent opportunity to move up over the next two days. We need to make a few more putts and we will have a good finish."
Neumann totaled four birdies on the day including a chip-in on her last hole of the day and is tied for 13th individually.
Senior Vanessa Koechli carded a 2-over 74 with one birdie for her round and is tied for 35th place.
