STATESBORO, Ga. - Junior Alex Ellis birdied two of his final three holes to shoot a 1-over par 73 as the College of Charleston men's golf team is currently in 14th place heading into the third and final round tomorrow at the Schenkel Invitational.
After an opening 297, the Cougars shot a team score of 301 today for a total of 598 (+22). Alabama put together a 7-under par 281 to jump into the lead at 13-under par for the tournament.
Ellis, who opened the tournament yesterday with a 2-under 70 is now tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard (-1), six shots back of the leader, Justin Thomas (-7) from Alabama.
After an opening 78, freshman Josh Lorenzetti came back with a 1-over 73 with three birdies in his second round.
"When you play in these types of fields you cannot count scores in the high 70s," CofC head coach Mark McEntire said. "We went in with the game plan today to make pars. Even par would have put us in fourth-place. We just made six doubles today in the counted scores. You cannot spot the best teams in the country that many shots. We will stick with the same game plan tomorrow and try and finish as high as we can."
