BROOKLET, Ga. – The College of Charleston equestrian team finished third at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 5 Championships, narrowly missing out on advancing to the IHSA National Show.
The show was championed by Berry College followed by Savannah College of Art and Design which will advance to the IHSA National Horse Show to be held May 2-5 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa. Rounding out the finishers were CofC, Virginia Intermont and Vanderbilt.
The Cougars failed to earn high placing in the early classes, but improved down the stretch to give themselves a chance at advancing late in the show. The effort came up just short; however, as the Cougars were denied what would have been their 24th trip to Nationals.
The comeback effort was led by Eliza Hay, Christina Couper and Trudy Noll who all won their classes to cut the deficit. Hay won the Open Fences, Couper won the Intermediate Flat and Noll won the Novice Flat.
Hay will advance to Nationals on an individual level to compete for the Cacchione Cup – the highest individual honor in collegiate riding.
