STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore Hayley McMahon came within a second of breaking the CofC school record as she won the title in the 1,500-meter run and the College of Charleston women’s track & field team wrapped up competition in the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Georgia Southern.
The Cougars scored 32 points and tied with Furman for sixth-place and finished eight and a half points ahead of the Citadel. Western Carolina won the women’s title by 38 points over Appalachian State.
McMahon, who came in ranked second in the 1,500-meter run, won the event in a time of 4:28.45, .85 seconds from breaking the CofC school record of 4:27.60.
Freshman Roshani Glover earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.86 meters to score six points for the Cougars. Glover was the second best freshman in the event and earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Sophomore Tiffany Sisk, who won the shot put title at the Outdoor Championship last year, finished fourth this year with a throw of 13.48 meters.
Junior Kaitlin McWhorter scored three points for the Cougars as she finished in sixth-place in the heptathlon, a series of seven events. McWhorter, who had her best event in the long jump where she finished third with a jump of 5.25 meters, totaled 4,120 points in the competition.
