CHARLESTON, S.C. – Phil Sherry has been hired as Director of Basketball Operations as announced by College of Charleston Head Coach Doug Wojcik on Friday.

Sherry comes to CofC from Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Okla., where he served as freshman boys’ basketball head coach during the 2012-13 season. He previously spent three years at the University of Tulsa under Wojcik as the program’s assistant director of operations and graduate manager helping the coaching staff with team travel, video, scouting reports and academic progress of student-athletes.

“Going into year two, Phil was the best guy for this job in the sense of familiarity and knowing what we do,” Wojcik said. “His hire allows Joe Wallace an easier transition into the assistant coach and recruiting roles, due to their existing relationship as my administrative assistants at Tulsa. Phil will be a great asset to us and knows how we operate as a program. With our video coordinator Richarde McCray returning, we have great chemistry within our staff as we work together in moving the program forward and into the CAA. We are very excited to have Phil and his wife, Maureen, and their twin boys, rejoin us in Charleston.”

Prior to Tulsa, Sherry served as an assistant men’s basketball coach for two years under head coach Brian Lane at NCAA Division III Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. There, he assisted with player and skill development and evaluated and recruited high school prospects. As a team, the Pioneers reached the 2009 NCAA Division III Tournament, compiled a 21-6 overall record and went 13-3 in the Heartland Conference.

Originally from Tulsa, Sherry earned his bachelor’s degree in English with minors in sport management and history from Gonzaga University in 2007. He also completed his master’s degree coursework in coaching and sport leadership from the University of Kentucky in 2009.

Sherry is married to the former Maureen Anne Coughlin and the couple are parents to 15-month-old twin boys, Nolan and Declan. In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports, playing pick-up basketball and playing golf.
