Jonathan Gunnells is in his fourth year at the College of Charleston and second as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.  He was a staff trainer his first two years and was responsible for women's basketball, equestrian and women's golf.  Now, he provides coverage for the baseball and sailing teams, as well as the men's tennis team in the fall.  He also serves as the facility coordinator for the training room at Patriots Point.

From 2006-07 Gunnells also worked at James Island Physical Therapy which provided medical outreach to James Island Charter High School athletics.

Gunnells received his Master's Degree in Health, Exercise and Sports Science from The Citadel where he served as Graduate Assistant in the Sports Medicine Department for two years. His job responsibilities included medical coverage for the football team, wrestling team and the men's basketball team. In addition, he was also the travel coordinator for the men's basketball team.

Gunnells graduated with honors from the College of Charleston in May 2004 where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. At The College of Charleston, he was and Athletic Training student for the men's and women's soccer team, the baseball team and he also worked as an intern with The Citadel football team.

Before coming the Charleston, Gunnells received his Associate in Science from Trident Technical College in December 2000. Gunnells is a native of the Low Country growing up in the Summerville area. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Association. Gunnells is an approved Atheltic Training clinical instructor as well as CPR and AED certified.

Gunnells lives on Daniel Island with his wife Erica, a 2004 CofC graduate, who works as a Nurse Practitioner.
