CLEMSON, S.C. – College of Charleston men’s tennis fell to 64th-ranked Clemson, 5-2, on Tuesday evening at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
The Tigers (5-0) claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Charleston’s top-seeded pair of junior Lukas Koncilia (Tyrol, Austria/Franciscian) and sophomore Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium/Athenne Royale Margueritte Bervoets) handed Derek DiFazio and Rok Bizjak their first loss in four matches. In a tight match, the CofC duo escaped with an 8-7 victory after winning the tiebreaker. Koncilia picked up a point for the Cougars as the top seed in singles competition. After losing the first set to Derek DiFazio, he rebounded to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-4. Koncilia is unbeaten in dual matches this season in both singles and doubles action. Senior Joe Nicolazzi (St. Louis, Mo./New Mexico) also earned a point for Charleston with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Juan Bolona at the No. 6 spot. College of Charleston (1-1) travels to Florida for two matches this weekend. The Cougars will face Bethune-Cookman on Friday at 2 p.m. in Daytona before moving on to Jacksonville for a Sunday morning match against North Florida. Doubles: 1.
