Position:
Otto German, who is in his 38th year of service at his alma mater, was a four-year letterwinner from 1970-73 under former head coach Alan LeForce. An all-conference selection in 1970, he was the second-ever African-American student-athlete to receive a full basketball scholarship at The College.

"The College has been a big part of my life for 42 years," German said. "I appreciate the opportunity to serve as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and look forward to the new challenges."

Before assuming his current post within the athletics department as Director of NCAA Compliance in 1992, German served as an Assistant Director of Financial Aid/Veterans Affairs at CofC from 1973-76 and was the Assistant Director of Student Activities from 1976-79. He later assumed the role of Assistant Director of Admissions from 1979-86 and then Associate Dean of Admissions from 1986-92. A 2009 Eddie Ganaway Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, German is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Avery Institute where he served as secretary.

"I am proud to work with Otto," Hull said. "He is a great gentleman and a terrific colleague. He is also a man of integrity who is well suited to serve in this critical role of ensuring we play by the rules - the NCAA rules, the Southern Conference rules and institutional rules."

Prior to his full-time appointment at CofC, he served as an assistant basketball coach at Porter Gaud School from 1976-80 and Wando High School from 1989-92. German is heavily involved in the community as well as his hometown of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission for seven years, the Mt. Pleasant Election Commission for six years and as a recreational youth basketball and football coach for six years.

A 1969 graduate of Moultrie High School where he was named Lowcountry Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American, he earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education from CofC in 1973. German is married to the former Albertha Walker and the couple has three children, Taron, Ronata and Chadwick, and 10 grandchildren. He is a member of the Male and Adult Choir, Director of the Acolytes and Assistant Church School Superintendent at Friendship AME Church.
