Melson begins her first year as Director of Basketball Operations for the women's basketball team.

Melson, a student-athlete on the women's basketball team at Georgia Southern from 2006-09, has spent the last year as an assistant women's basketball coach at East Georgia College in Swainsboro, Ga.

At East Georgia, Melson helped lead a first-year program to a 17-12 record. Her responsibilities included working one-on-one with players to improve their skills, administering the set up of weight room and training facilities and organizing recruiting guidelines and trips.

Melson, a native of Newman, Ga., served as an assistant coach/mentor at Statesboro High School in Statesboro, Ga. from June 2009-10. In helping students reach their goals, Melson was instrumental in leading the program to the Elite Eight of the Georgia High School State Tournament.

As a student-athlete at Georgia Southern, Melson became one of 17 players in school history to join the 1,000 point club. She was also honored by being placed on the Southern Conference All-Academic Team from Dec. 2005-May 2009.

Melson has also been active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club in Statesboro.

Melson graduated in May 2010 from Georgia Southern with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice.
