Gettys Glaze begins his second year as assistant men's golf coach in 2012.
Every region has its local personalities that stand out for embodying the spirit of its people. In a city known for traditional values and genuine local pride, Sandlapper Real Estate Group founder, native James Islander Gettys Glaze is definitely in that number.
The Glaze family has long been respected for their service to the public trust, and big brother Lee Glaze was a household name for his athletic heroics long before Gettys (pronounced Gettiss) ever read his own name in the local paper. But when the 19 year old Glaze broke from big brother's shadow to lead the Citadel to its first and only trip to the College World series -- where he also made baseball history as the first player ever to pitch and catch in the same game -- it was clear that Gettys was destined for remarkable things.
After three years as a professional pitcher in the Boston Red Sox organization, Gettys, his wife Cheryl and their two children came home to break new ground in business and community service, an impact he has had in both arenas over the past ten years has been newsworthy and inspiring. Some things should never change.
