CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team will host the CofC Invitational this weekend at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Play will begin Friday, Oct. 21, and run through Sunday, Oct. 23.
The Cougars welcome Appalachian State, UNC Charlotte and Gardner Webb to their first home tournament of the season. The weekend’s tournament will consist of a round-robin format with four doubles matches and eight singles matches played against each school.
The Cougars return to play after recently competing at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championship hosted by University of North Carolina on Oct. 13-16 in Chapel Hill, N.C., where seniors Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) and Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) advanced to the round of 64 in singles play.
“The fourth annual Charleston Invitational is always a challenging way to start our home season,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “Playing at home is such a treat. Our facility is among the best in the Southeast and we enjoy having teams come to Charleston to compete at Patriots Point.
“The team has been working hard all fall and will be ready for the challenges of the weekend. I am looking forward to watching them compete. We have some new doubles combinations to work on and our singles is improving daily, so getting to put these things into competition is the best test.”
At the 2010 CofC Invitational seven Cougars claimed flights in the singles draw, including current players Trintignac, Delme, Kyle Parker (Richmond, Va.), Bryan Roberts (Charlotte, N.C.) and Stephen Hardy (Fairfax, Va.). The tandem of Trintignac and Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France) went undefeated with a 3-0 mark in doubles competition.
