CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team will travel to the state of Georgia this weekend for back-to-back dual matches beginning with Mercer on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon, Ga.
First serve between CofC (0-1) and Bears (0-2) is set for noon (ET). Mercer will play Alabama State on Friday, while the Cougars will play in their first match in over a two-week period on Saturday. They are coming off a close 4-3 decision at No. 66-ranked Clemson in their spring season opener on Jan. 15.
Following Saturday's match against Mercer, the Cougars will have a quick turnaround in preparation for their second weekend opponent in Kennesaw State (1-1) on Sunday, Feb. 5 at noon (ET) at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga.
"We are really looking forward to getting back on the court for competition," CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "We have not played either of these two teams in the past five years, so it is always exciting to play new opponents. Mercer and Kennesaw will be good challenges this weekend and a good stretch for us to play back-to-back away matches. We have been working hard in practice and are eager to get back out as a team."
The Cougars have added one newcomer to their roster this spring in freshman Alon Faiman, a 5-foot-10 left-hander from Israel, who Bruner says, 'has a dictating serve, an aggressive forehand and will come in and help us in singles and doubles as he gets comfortable with collegiate tennis.'
