BOCA RATON, Fla. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team began its two-match spring break road trip to south Florida with a 5-2 victory over Florida Atlantic on Monday afternoon at Patch Reef Park.

The Cougars (3-2) started off the dual match battling the Owls (7-4) for the doubles point. With both teams claiming wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 lines, the No. 2 tandem of senior Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) and freshman Alon Faiman (Israel) won their pro-set tiebreaker 7-3 to give CofC the 1-0 advantage into singles play. They would defeat FAU's Robert Dubuque and Chris Janssen, 9-8.

Junior Kyle Parker (Richmond, Va.) extended the Cougars' lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Will Neuner at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile) beat Garrett Betsarakis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, for the team's third point of the match.

Junior Stephen Hardy (Fairfax, Va.) used a 6-3, 6-2 decision to dispatch Boris Bogomolov at the No. 5 line to improve to 3-2 on the season and clinch the match victory for the Cougars. FAU had previously won two of its last three matches and were 6-1 at home.

"It was a really good response from our last match against (No. 70-ranked) Georgia State," CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "It was a consistent effort for three hours of play. It was fun to see Tom and Alon win the doubles point which gave us momentum going into singles. Overall, it was a good team effort up-and-down the line for us. FAU is a good team and has played 12 matches this season. It was good to see the team show improvement so quickly in the season having only played in our fifth match of the year."

CofC will remain in Boca Raton and face Xavier in a neutral-site match scheduled for tomorrow at noon (ET).
