Cougar Tennis Hosts Parent's Weekend Tripleheader
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's and women's tennis teams will host a Parent's Weekend tripleheader on Saturday, March 17 at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The CofC women, currently ranked No. 74 in the nation in the latest Campbell/ITA Team Rankings, will battle Charleston Southern (7-1) for bragging rights for the city championship title in the first match of the day slated for 8:30 a.m. (ET).
The CofC men (6-2, 1-0 SoCon) are fresh off a 6-1 road victory at Wofford in its Southern Conference opener on March 15 and will welcome Elon (6-7, 3-0 SoCon) at 10:30 a.m. (ET). Both teams tied each other for a share of the league regular-season title in 2011.
"We are in the swing of things right now," CofC Men's Tennis Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "To play two conference matches this week (Wofford and Elon) is a good start for us to make sure we are ready for the remainder of the spring season."
The second half of the day will feature a matinee matchup between the Cougar women versus Wofford (3-6, 0-0 SoCon) at 1 p.m. (ET). Senior Katie Lee (Brisbane, Australia) leads the team with an undefeated 7-0 mark playing primarily at No. 6 singles and is currently ranked No. 113 nationally.
"It should be a great weekend of college tennis, especially on Saturday as we host Charleston Southern for the city championship and an improved Wofford team in the second half," CofC Director of Tennis and Women's Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "We look forward to the weekend and hope we have a lot of Cougar fans out there to support us."
