MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team captured its 11th consecutive victory of the season with a 5-3 decision over UMass on Thursday afternoon at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

The Cougars (15-4) swept the doubles against the Minutewomen (8-7) and won four of the six singles matches including the fourth deciding point by senior Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over UMass' Julia Comas at the No. 3 line.

Her younger sister, Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) as well as No. 113-ranked senior Katie Lee (Brisbane, Australia) and freshman Samantha Maddox (Lexington, Ky.) also contributed in the singles lineup with straight-set victories as CofC protected its home court and are now 11-0.

"It was a nice win for us over one of the frontrunners in the A-10," CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "UMass is much-improved and they showed a lot of fight today. I'm sure they will do well in their conference championship."

The Cougars continue play against Cornell in their Thursday doubleheader nightcap with live scoring available on www.CofCSports.com.
