JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
College of Charleston opened the weekend in Jacksonville with a 5-0 dual win over FAU on Friday afternoon at the Jacksonville beaches.
College of Charleston did not lose a single set in the entire dual as the team improved to 3-3 in dual competitions this season.
Playing in their familiar top pairing, senior Elyse Chubb and freshman Lizzie Theesfeld won 21-15 with several aces in the first game. After trailing through the first half of the second game, the Cougars came back to win 21-17.
In the two spot, juniors Kelly Kolich and Emily Shelton took the first game to extra points before triumphing 23-21. The pairing won the second game, 21-14.
Sophomore Kerstin Koehler and freshman Andi Zbojniewicz took posted dramatic wins of 21-19 and 21-19 in the third pairing spot to sweep the match.
Playing in the four spot, freshman Sloane White and sophomore Emily Neideffer won both games by scores of 21-19 and 21-11.
Finally, freshman Catey Warren and sophomore Taeler Davis won 21-12 and 21-9 in the five pairing.
The Cougars will continue play tomorrow in the UNF Sand Invitational presented by Chicago Pizza and Metro PCS at the Jacksonville Beach sand courts. Saturday will feature pool play beginning at 9 a.m. while Sunday is set up into three brackets. Seven different schools are scheduled to compete in the event.
