CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 71-ranked College of Charleston women's tennis team will host Georgia Southern in its final Southern Conference regular-season match on Friday, April 13 at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
First serve between the Cougars (20-5, 8-1 SoCon) and Eagles (5-13, 2-7 SoCon) is slated for 2:30 p.m. (ET). CofC will also have one final tune-up versus East Carolina (9-13) in preparation for postseason play at the upcoming 2012 SoCon Tennis Championships to be held on April 19-22 in Charleston.
Seniors Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) and Katie Lee (Brisbane, Australia) will be honored prior to the GSU match on Senior Day. A two-time All-SoCon Second Team selection and a 4.0 Honors College student, Newman has recorded 70 career singles victories with a 33-5 league mark and 60 career doubles victories with an impressive 24-1 league mark to date. Lee, a major contributor to the lineup over the last two years after transferring from the University of Tennessee, has compiled 24 career singles victories and 19 career doubles victories while at CofC.
"We look forward to honoring our two outstanding seniors on Senior Day tomorrow against Georgia Southern," CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "Hopefully, we can finish our last regular-season conference match with great enthusiasm and positive playing."
The Cougars are currently on a two-match win streak and have won 31 of its last 32 consecutive league regular-season contests. They remain an undefeated 14-0 at their home facility and will welcome ECU at 10 a.m. (ET) on Saturday, April 14 in conjunction with USTA Kids Day.
"We are thrilled to host USTA Kids Day against a talented East Carolina team," Anastopoulo said. "We hope Cougar fans will bring out their children to enjoy some good college tennis as well as a fun youth clinic and tailgate after the match around 1 p.m."
