CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston along with the Southern Conference will host the 2012 Men's Golf Championship April 15-17 on the Ralston Creek Course on Daniel Island. It will be the 76th annual event.
Teams will play a practice round on Saturday April 14 with the first round tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday April 15. Teeing off from 8:00 a.m. through 8:40 a.m. will be Furman and Appalachian State. Next, from 8:50 until 9:30 will be Western Carolina Davidson and Elon, followed by Wofford, College of Charleston and Samford from 9:40 until 10:20. The final group will be Chattanooga, UNCG and Georgia Southern from 10:30 until 11:10.
The team champion will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The conference medalist will also qualify individually for NCAA postseason play should their institution not advance to regionals. The leagues' coaches will vote in a 10-member All-Conference team at the championship.
The 2011 Sothern Conference Men's Golf Championship was claimed by the Georgia Southern Eagles. GSU was trailing by five shots at the turn in the final round and played the final nine holes at five-under par to surpass UTC and take the victory at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. Davidson freshman Richard Fountain became the Wildcats' first SoCon Tournament individual medalist since 1973 as he fired a final round, five-under par 67.
