SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Junior left-hander Kyle Parker (Richmond, Va.) was tabbed Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played from April 9-15 as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Parker helped guide the College of Charleston men's tennis team to a 3-1 week including the program's third-consecutive SoCon regular-season championship title. He went 3-1 in singles and a perfect 4-0 in doubles against Georgia Southern, The Citadel, Appalachian State and Davidson combined.
Parker is currently on a team-best three-match win streak at No. 3 singles defeating James Atkinson of the Citadel in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, on April 10, Alain Humblet of Appalachian State, 6-4, 6-3, on April 13 and Nicky Kunz of Davidson in a three-set comeback, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, on April 15 in the team's regular-season finale.
As part of CofC's top doubles tandem, Parker and teammate Mickael Trintignac, became the first Cougar duo since 2002 to be ranked in the latest Campbell/ITA Doubles National Rankings released on April 10. They are currently ranked No. 84 in the country with a 17-2 overall record and an 8-2 mark in league play at No. 1 doubles. Former Cougars Sagi Zakin and Henrico DuPlessis were previously ranked No. 31 in the nation in 2002.
For the week, Parker and Trintignac extended their win streak to eight-straight matches with victories over the Eagles', Bulldogs', Mountaineers' and Wildcats' top doubles team.
Other top performers in the SoCon included Appalachian State's Steve Karendal, Georgia Southern's Kyle Hoffman, UNCG's Orcun Seyrek, Samford's Zac Dunkle, Chattanooga's Ankit Chopra and Wofford's Rob Galloway.
CofC will enjoy a first-round bye in the upcoming 2012 SoCon Tennis Championships on April 19-22 and will take on the winner of either No. 8-seeded Chattanooga or No. 9-seeded Davidson in quarterfinal action to be held on Friday, April 20 at 8:30 a.m. (ET) at the CofC Tennis Center.
