Cougar Pairs Tie For Ninth In Final Day Of National Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. - College of Charleston sand volleyball pairs Elyse Chubb/Lizzie Theesfeld and Emily Shelton/Kelly Kolich finished tied for ninth in the AVCA Pairs Championship on Sunday morning.

Entering the single elimination tournament as the 15th seed, Chubb and Theesfeld had to face off against Pepperdine's top group in Caitlin Racich and Summer Ross. The Waves won a 21-12, 21-16 decision to advance to the next round.

In the 13th seed spot, Shelton and Kolich battled Florida State's Aurora Newgard and Brittany Tiegs. Newgard/Tiegs won the match by a score of 21-17, 21-17, to end the Cougars' run.

Both CofC pairs finished the tournament tied for ninth place overall.
