CHARLESTON, S.C. - Three College of Charleston men's soccer players will be developing their talents this summer in the United Soccer Leagues' Premier Development League (PDL), the highest level of men's amateur soccer competition in the United States.

Ralphie Lundy (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) will be playing for the Real Colorado Foxes, Joey De Mare (Chapin, S.C.) will be playing with the Portland Timbers and Troy Peterson (Walla Walla, Wash.) will be with the Seattle Sounders.

"To have each of these guys in high-level environments this summer is a big deal leading into the fall season," said CofC head coach Ralph Lundy. "This will keep them sharp and provide them with matches so they are optimally prepared for helping our team accomplish our goals."

Each player of this trio averaged over 45 minutes per game and was integral to the Cougars' results in 2011.

Peterson, a freshman in the fall, tied for the team high with six goals and also notched an assist last season.

De Mare appeared in all 18 games for the Cougars and contributed a goal and three assists in his sophomore campaign.

Ralphie Lundy scored two goals on the season and led the squad in assists with five.

The PDL brings in top players from the collegiate and youth ranks across the nation and allows the players to compete at a professional-quality level without sacrificing their amateurism or NCAA eligibility.

Considered the top developmental men's league in North America, the PDL features 73 teams within four conferences across the United States and Canada. The PDL season consists of 16 regular season matches for each team, eight home and eight away, and provides elite collegiate players the opportunity to taste a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility. In addition to league play, PDL teams compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as various exhibitions. The PDL has proven to be an important stepping-stone for top professionals now playing throughout the world.
