CHARLESTON, S.C. - For the fourth-consecutive year, the College of Charleston women's tennis team will compete in the fourth annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend - college tennis' premier season-opening event which features 15 men's and 15 women's teams serving as host four-team sites vying to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in February of 2013.
The Cougars will be the No. 3 seed at the four-team site hosted by top-seeded Duke on Jan. 26 & 27, 2013, in Durham, N.C. They will face No. 2-seeded Wyoming in their opening-round match on Saturday, Jan. 26, at a time still to be determined and either Duke or No. 4-seeded Wisconsin in the championship or consolation match on Sunday, Jan. 27.
"This is our fourth-straight year to be a part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend which makes it a total of eight national tournament matches for us to compete in over the last four years," CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "I am really proud of our assistant coaches. They have helped us bring in great recruits who continually keep us competing at the national level.
"It will be another tough site as we open up the tournament against a very talented University of Wyoming team, who will be well-prepared for an indoor match in January, in the first round. This will also be our second consecutive year to play at Duke, who was a 2012 Final Four team and only a couple of points away from defeating eventual national champion Florida in the semifinals. They will be in contention for a national title this coming year."
CofC has participated in all four ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournaments since its inception in 2010. Last season, the Cougars competed against Duke and Winthrop in Durham, N.C. In 2011, they dueled Florida and William & Mary in Gainesville, Fla., and in 2010, against Mississippi State and Boston University in Miami, Fla.
