CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s tennis team will open the fall season by hosting the 11th Annual CofC Invitational on Sept. 14-16 at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
This year’s tournament field is comprised of seven teams including host CofC, Stetson, defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State, UNC Charlotte, Coastal Carolina as well as Southern Conference foes Davidson and Samford. There will be four singles flights, two doubles flights and a doubles round-robin. Matches will be played throughout the day as competition begins on Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m. (ET) and on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. (ET)
“We are really looking forward to the fall season,” CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. “This will be a challenging tournament for us. We lost seniors Caroline Newman and Katie Lee, so we will be leaning heavily on freshman Brooke McAmis and our returners to fill those holes. This weekend’s tournament will show us what we need to improve on and give us an indication of our talent level against good competition.”
Last year, the Cougars won one of the five singles flights as well as three of the five doubles flights. They welcome back eight returners from their 2012 NCAA Tournament and SoCon Championship squad, while McAmis is a five-star freshman recruit, who was ranked as high as No. 33 in the Class of 2012 by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Updated draw sheets with results and times will be posted online at: www.CofCSports.com at the conclusion of each day’s competition.
