CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston head coach Amy Seago has announced the schedule for the 2013 track and field season.
The Cougars will open the indoor season on Jan. 11 when they travel to Clemson, S.C. for the Tiger Invitational. The next weekend the team will get a preview of the track that the SoCon Indoor Championship will be run on, the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
"I think we have some good meets to start out that will get especially our young kids experience competing at the collegiate level," Seago said.
The Cougars will have two more meets before returning to Winston-Salem, the Gene Anderson Invitational at North Carolina on Feb. 2 and the Tiger Paw Invitational Feb. 8-9 in Clemson, S.C. The conference indoor championship will be contested in Winston-Salem, N.C. Feb. 23-24.
The first weekend in March the Cougars will have the opportunity to get some last chance qualifying marks for the NCAA Championship as selected athletes might go to the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., or the VT Final Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. Both meet will be March 1-2.
The Cougars will open the outdoor season by hosting the third annual Palmetto Classic with the Citadel on March 8 in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Cougars will have four meets before the outdoor conference championship. Following the home meet CofC will see the conference championship track at the Georgia Southern Invitational on March 15.
The Cougars will also compete at the Weems Baskin Relays March 22-23 at South Carolina, the Raleigh Relays March 29-30 at North Carolina State and the Duke Invitational April 5-6 in Durham. The SoCon Outdoor Championship will be held in Statesboro, Ga. April 20-21.
The Cougars will again have last chance meets for regional qualifying May 3-4 at the Clemson Invitational, May 5 at the Duke Twilight and May 10-11 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
The NCAA East Preliminary, which the Cougars have been represented in each of the last two years, will be contested May 23-25 at NC A&T in Greensboro, N.C. The NCAA Outdoor Championship is set for June 5-8 at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. and the USATF Jr. & Sr. Championships will be June 19-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.
"Overall I'm really looking forward to the start of the 2013 track and field season," Seago said. Our kids have been working really hard in preparation for the competition we will face this season."
