WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's track and field team competed in their second meet of the season Saturday at the Wake Forest Invitational, held at the JDL Fast Track Complex, the site of the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
Sophomore Hayley McMahon pushed to the front of the pack and won the 800-meter run in 2:14.89, nearly five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Sophomore Tiffany Sisk, the 2012 SoCon Outdoor shot put champion had a good day as she finished fifth with a throw of 13.50 meters.
Freshman Rachel Leder finished 11th in the 60-meter hurdles, just 13 hundredths of a second from making the finals of the event, with a time of 9.20 seconds. Freshman Ciera Holston and junior Kaitlin McWhorter also finished under 10 seconds in 21st and 23rd place respectively.
"This was another good meet for us to gain more experience and work on our technique and racing strategy," CofC head coach Amy Seago said. "We are learning to be more aggressive in our approach, which is making us stronger as individual competitors and as a team."
Up next the Cougars will compete in the Gene Anderson Invitational on the campus of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Feb. 2.
