HOMEWOOD, Ala. – The College of Charleston men’s tennis team fell to Southern Conference foe Samford this evening by a score of 6-1 at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavillion.

It was a tough loss for the Cougars (2-5, 0-2 SoCon) in their second match of their spring break road trip. Samford (5-4, 1-0 SoCon) avenged last season’s loss to CofC in the Southern Conference championship match.

One of the few bright spots for the Cougars was freshman Zack Lewis (Richmond, Ky.) improving his singles record to 6-1 on the season by overcoming Garrison Laduca of Samford in a comeback 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) victory in the No. 6 position.

“Samford managed to outplay us today,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “They were ready to compete and beat us pretty thoroughly. We’ve got a lot of work to do to get to where we need to be.”

The College will close out its road trip at Tulane on Wednesday, March 6 at the Goldring Tennis Center at 1 p.m. (ET) in New Orleans, La.
