CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s tennis team will travel up to North Carolina this weekend for two matches against Elon and East Carolina. Up first for the Cougars is Elon on Saturday, April 6 at noon (ET) at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.
CofC (10-6, 5-2 SoCon) has been playing very well recently, winning its last eight matches in a row. Elon (13-5, 6-0 SoCon) has had an incredible season and boasts the 45th-ranked singles player in the country in Cameron Silverman and the 34th-ranked doubles team in Silverman and reigning Southern Conference Player of the Month Stefan Fortmann.
The Cougars beat the Phoenix 5-2 last spring in Charleston but Elon’s team has improved tremendously since last year so the College will have a much tougher challenge this time.
“Elon will present a similar challenge to what we saw in Chattanooga and Samford earlier this year,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “Those were the only two SoCon matches we’ve lost so we’ll have to be ready for this weekend. This match will get us ready for the SoCon tournament because Elon’s hosting that as well in two weeks. I like where our team’s at right now and I’m hoping that we can come away with a win.”
After Saturday’s match CofC will drive east to meet up with East Carolina on Sunday, April 7 at noon (ET) at the River Birch Tennis Center in Greenville, N.C.
