MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s tennis bounced back after two weekend losses with a 5-2 win over Southern Conference opponent Wofford in a Senior Day match this afternoon at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
With the victory CofC climbs to 11-8 with a 6-3 record in the SoCon. The Terriers drop to 3-13 with a 1-8 mark in conference.
The Cougars started well in doubles, winning all three matches. Senior Billy Kenny (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) scored an 8-5 victory in his Senior Day match with his playing partner, sophomore Sebastian Lopez (Medellin, Colombia), on Court 2.
Sophomore Charlie Ghriskey (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) kept things going in singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Walker Heffron of Wofford on Court 4.
Freshman Zack Lewis (Richmond, Ky.) rolled to his eleventh consecutive singles victory, bringing his season record to 17-2. Lewis overcame Tom Wood of the Terriers 6-2, 6-2 on Court 5.
Sophomore Alon Faiman (Ramat Hasharon, Israel) chipped in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Joey Francis on Court 6.
Lopez wrapped up the victory for the College with a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Drew Superstein on Court 2.
“It’s always nice to get a win at home,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “Billy (Kenny) did a great job today and it was really fun to honor him and to see his teammates support him. He’s been an integral part of our program the over the last four years. The team took care of business today and I feel like we’re ready for a very strong UNCG team tomorrow.”
CofC will play its last regular season match against SoCon-leading UNCG tomorrow, April 12 at 3 p.m. (ET) at Patriots Point.
