CHARLESTON, S.C. – Freshman men’s golfer Josh Lorenzetti (Columbia, S.C.) and senior women’s tennis player Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) earned College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week honors sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of April 22.

Lorenzetti won the Southern Conference men’s golf championship, becoming the first freshman in program history to win the tournament, as he helped the CofC men’s team to a third-place finish at the Daniel Island Club on Tuesday. Lorenzetti shot a two-under 70 to claim medalist honors and was the only player in the tournament field to shoot under-par. He also earned SoCon Freshman of the Year honors.

Newman, the SoCon Player of the Year, led College of Charleston to its fifth-straight Southern Conference women’s tennis championship title. With the championship bout tied at three, Newman battled Elon’s Jordan Johnston to a 5-5 tie and eventually won on a 26-minute, 26-point game that clinched the match and gave CofC the conference tournament championship.
