CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston’s Canyon Barry (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is one of 26 collegiate and high school players who will participate in the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship Team Training Camp to be held on June 14-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 6-foot-6 redshirt freshman guard, who is the son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, is joined on the training camp roster by Elfrid Payton of Louisiana-Lafayette, Ryan Arcidiacono of Villanova, Bryce Alford of La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., Brandon Ashley of Arizona, Robert Carter of Georgia Tech, Damyean Dotson of Oregon, Kris Dunn of Providence, Javan Felix of Texas, Michael Frazier of Florida, Marcus Georges-Hunt of Georgia Tech, Shaq Goodwin of Memphis, Aaron Gordon of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif., Jerami Grant of Syracuse, Montrezl Harrell of Louisville, Rondaé Hollis-Jefferson of Chester High School in Chester, Pa., Jahlil Okafor of Whitney Young High School in Chicago, Ill., Rodney Purvis of Connecticut, James Robinson of Pittsburgh, 2013 National Freshman of the Year Marcus Smart of Oklahoma State, Jarnell Stokes of Tennessee, Rasheed Sulaimon of Duke, Devin Thomas of Wake Forest, Mike Tobey of Virginia, Nigel Williams-Goss of Findlay Prep from Happy Valley, Ore., and Justise Winslow of St. Johns High School in Houston, Texas.

“This is a wonderful opportunity and great publicity for not only Canyon, but our men’s basketball program at the College of Charleston,” CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik said. “It is pretty exciting to have our players participate two summers in a row in international competition. Last summer, we had Andrew Lawrence represent Great Britain in the 2012 London Olympic Games, and now, we have Canyon Barry competing for a spot on the USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team.

“His mom, Lynn, was a great women’s basketball player at William & Mary and his dad, Rick, is an NBA Hall of Famer. Canyon has stood on his own two feet here at CofC and is now being afforded an opportunity very few kids get – a chance to try out for the U19 Team and represent his country. It is well deserved. Canyon is a 4.0 (GPA) student, a physics major and will play multiple positions for us next season.”

The 2013 USA U19 World Championship Team will be led by a trio of experienced and successful college coaches in Head Coach Billy Donovan of Florida, Assistant Coach Tony Bennett of Virginia and Assistant Coach Shaka Smart of VCU. Collegiate coaches Ed Cooley of Providence, Tim Ryan of Central Florida and Buzz Williams of Marquette will also assist during the training camp as on-court coaches.

The USA U19 Training Camp will be used to select the 12-member USA team that will compete in the FIBA U19 World Championship to be held on June 27-July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic. Team finalists will be announced following the June 16 morning session.

The 26 players on this year’s training camp roster represent 15 states, including four hopefuls from Texas; three from Georgia; two from California, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina and Pennsylvania; and one player each from Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Tennessee.

The roster of training camp participants features two rising college juniors, 17 rising sophomores, one redshirt freshman, four graduating high school seniors and two rising high school seniors.
