Madden Named Assistant Director of Athletics Communications
A native of Santa Barbara, Calif., Madden will serve as the primary media contact for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country and track & field.
Madden joins the Cougar family from the University of Missouri, where he spent the past year working in the Strategic Communications wing of Mizzou Athletics. Madden helped to usher a smooth transition for the Tigers’ 20-sport varsity athletics program during their inaugural campaign in the SEC by providing quality content for the Athletics website as well as other in-house publications. He was an assistant contact for the Mizzou women’s tennis team, and also helped with game-day responsibilities, broadcast assistance, social media management and statistical aggregation.
"Ryan came highly-recommended by my former Big 12 Conference (now SEC) colleagues at the University of Missouri,” CofC Director of Athletics Communications Marlene Navor said. “I have a lot of respect for Mizzou Associate AD for Strategic Communications Chad Moller and his staff and know Ryan learned from some of the best in our profession as a former student assistant in their office. Ryan has a bright future in our business and will help us continue to publicize the College of Charleston's 21 varsity sports programs on the regional and national level as we compete in our first year in the Colonial Athletic Association."
While at Mizzou, Madden also gained valuable post-season experience working as a Media Relations intern for the Southeastern Conference during the Men's SEC Basketball Tournament.
“I am thrilled about the opportunity to come to The College of Charleston,” said Madden. “This is an institution with great tradition, culture and focus. I am very much looking forward being a part of what should be an extremely gratifying and successful first year for the Cougars in the Colonial Athletic Association.”
Madden earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Missouri. He lives in Mount Pleasant with his fiancée, Heather, and their black lab, Biscuit.
