CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 4-ranked College of Charleston coed sailing team will begin the New Year with the 29th annual Rose Bowl regatta hosted by the University of Southern California and the US Sailing Center on Jan. 4-5 at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach, Calif.
The Cougars will be one of 32 collegiate sailing teams from a competitive field to participate in the two-day event.
All of the sailors for this regatta will not have to travel far as they are all Southern California residents who will be home for the holidays. The brother-sister Newport Beach duo of sophomore skipper Ryan Davidson and freshman crew Bayley Davidson will make up the A-Division squad with some help from sophomore crew member Katie Dowling (Coronado, Calif.). The B-Division team will be made up of sophomore skipper Jack Jorgensen (La Canada, Calif.) and freshman crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.).
“We’ll be taking our best west coast talent to this regatta,” CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. “We came in second behind Stanford last year so we’ll look to be competitive again. There will be a high school regatta going on at the same time so this is also a good chance for us to get a jump on recruiting.”
CofC will look to challenge top-ranked Georgetown who has squeaked by the Cougars in a couple of their recent regattas. Racing will start at 11 a.m. (PT) each day with a forecast calling for light winds.
This will be the final fall season regatta for the College. The spring season will begin with the SAISA Open on Feb. 8-9 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
