Cougar Women Place Among Top 10 at Emily Wick Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The No. 7-ranked College of Charleston women's sailing team placed among the top 10 at the Emily Wick Trophy intersectional regatta hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

The Cougars finished eighth with 295 points in the competitive 17-team field won by No. 10 Boston College with 190 points followed by No. 8 Stanford (207) in second, No. 4 Brown (209) in third, No. 14 Vermont (259) in fourth and No. 12 Navy (264) in fifth.

Ten races in each division were completed on Saturday in shifty and puffy conditions, while the final seven races were sailed in each division on Sunday with a slight ebb.

Senior skipper Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.), junior crew Sarah Scudder (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and sophomore crew Carly Shevitz (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placed 15th in A-Division (FJ's), while sophomore Grace Lucas (Little Silver, N.J.) skippered B-Division (420's) to nine top 5 finishes in 17 races sailed with junior crew Sarah Somes (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) to lead the Cougars to third and the eventual top 10 finish.

Up next, CofC will compete at the Admirals Cup hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on April 21-22 in King's Point, N.Y., and the SAISA Women's Championships hosted by Clemson on April 21-22 in Clemson, S.C.
