SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced its all-conference teams Monday afternoon and five College of Charleston players were included on the list. The teams are voted on by the conference's nine coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players in the balloting.

"It is a tremendous honor for our players to get this recognition from the league's coaches," said head coach Shelly Hoerner. "We all work extremely hard as a team and this recognition is a testament to our program's dedication."

Stephanie Saylors (Easley, S.C.) was named to the first team as a pitcher after leading the league in complete games and shutouts. She posted a 1.53 ERA this season through 169.2 innings of work in the circle.

Amanda Lonergan (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was included on the second team as a first baseman after batting .274 with 18 RBIs and a .989 fielding percentage.

Hope Klicker (Walla Walla, Wash.) was a second-team pitcher as well as an all-freshman selection. Klicker had the fourth best ERA in the league at 1.94 and struck out 117 hitters against just 17 bases on balls.

Joining Klicker on the all-freshman team were Mackenzie Maples (Corona, Calif.) and Allison Pedigo (Scottsville, Ky.).

Maples pushed her batting average to .311 on the year after an impressive span of hitting down the stretch. She ended the season with 25 RBIs and 10 extra-base hits.

Pedigo batted .270 on the season with 17 RBIs to her ledger and contributed to the Cougar defense as the leftfielder.

The CofC softball team opens play in the SoCon Championships on Wednesday, May 9 in Boone, N.C., on the campus of Appalachian State. The third-seeded Cougars will take on sixth seed Western Carolina in the third game of the tournament scheduled for 2 p.m.
