SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Marty Gantt swept the SoCon Player of the Year awards as he was selected for the top honor by the SoCon Sports Media Association, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

Gantt joined five other Cougars on the two All-SoCon teams selected by members of the media that cover Southern Conference baseball. A Dick Howser Award Semifinalist and Golden Spikes Award Watch List member, Gantt finished third in the conference with an average of .369 while hitting 10 homers and 40 RBI. His 62 runs led the conference and rank ninth in the nation, while he also boasts the top on-base percentage at .481.

Christian Powell, picked as the Coaches' Pitcher of the Year, earned a spot on the media's All-Conference First Team along with Gantt. Powell posted the best ERA (2.32) in the conference as he finished with a 9-3 record.

Junior Bradley Goodson, also named on the Coaches' All-Conference Second Team, was picked as the media's All-Conference Second Team shortstop. Goodson posted a .292 average with 42 RBI, which ranked second on the team.

Newly selected to the All-Conference teams were junior Matt Pegler as a Second Team starting pitcher, senior Kyle Owings as a Second Team relief pitcher and Rob Harding as a Second Team third baseman.

Pegler finished third in the SoCon with an ERA of 2.92 and a 9-2 overall record. Pegler's nine wins rank 19th in the country.

Owings posted several strong relief appearances to finish the season, including a save at Clemson and win over UNC-Asheville. He notched a 1.42 season ERA as a closer with three wins and two saves.

Harding finished the season as the team leader in RBI with 43, a team-best 17 of which came in two-out situations. The corner infielder led the team in batting with runners in scoring position (.459), and he hit a clutch walk-off single in extra innings to finish a sweep of The Citadel.

The Cougars' six players tied with Appalachian State and Samford for the most represented programs in the media's All-Conference teams.

Since 2002, the Cougars have now won either the Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year or Freshman of the Year in every season. In that span, the Cougars have tallied 20 total yearly honors, more than any other SoCon program.
