LONDON, England - College of Charleston senior point guard Andrew Lawrence (London, England) scored his first Olympic points as Great Britain lost a close 79-78 decision to World No. 2-ranked Spain in Pool B play on Thursday at The Basketball Arena in Olympic Park.

Lawrence scored five points in 22:42 minutes of action, helping to spark a key fourth-quarter comeback, against the likes of current NBA Los Angeles Lakers forward/center Pau Gasol, who is currently a teammate of CofC all-time leading scorer Andrew Goudelock.

The youngest player and lone collegian on the Team GB squad, Lawrence went 1-for-1 from beyond the three-point arc and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He also dished out one assist, brought down two rebounds and made one steal against the Spaniards.

Great Britain (0-3) is still searching for its first Olympic Games win since its first appearance in 1948 as the host country. They have two more preliminary-round games scheduled against Australia on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. (ET) - 8 p.m. (Local Time) and versus China on Monday, Aug. 6 at 11:45 a.m. (ET) - 4:45 p.m. (Local Time).
