The Cougars faced off against top-seeded Pepperdine in the first dual of the day. The Waves swept every set to win a 5-0 decision over the Cougars. The Cougars posted their best performance in the three spot as Andi Zbojniewicz and Kerstin Koehler forced a deciding third set after winning the second set, 23-21. However, the Waves won the third set 15-10.
College of Charleston faced off against Florida State in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Seminoles were able to win the first four matches and forfeited the last match with a dual victory clinched.
"It was a great experience to be involved with the first ever sand volleyball championship," head coach Jason Kepner said. "I am so proud of this team. They worked so hard and were able to accomplish something that they will remember forever."
Pepperdine went on to defeat Long Beach State in the championship to win the first AVCA Sand Volleyball National Championship.
The individual pairs championship will be held tomorrow morning. Elyse Chubb/Lizzie Theesfeld will compete as the 15th seed and Emily Shelton/Kelly Kolich will be the 13th seed in the single elimination tournament. Both groups will start at 8 a.m.
